Pick how many sets you are comparing

Make a Venn diagram in four steps

  1. Choose 2, 3, 4 or 5 sets. Most comparisons need two or three.
  2. Name each set on the Sets tab and pick a gel colour. Drag a set’s name on the diagram to slide that circle, or change its size.
  3. Click any region and type. Items that belong to both sets go in the overlap; items unique to one set go in its outer part.
  4. Export. Download PNG or SVG, copy the image into your slides, print it, or copy a share link.

What makes this one different

  • True 4- and 5-set diagrams. Many tools draw four circles and silently miss two combinations. Ours uses ellipses so all 15 or 31 regions exist.
  • Set notation on every region, plus shading, for maths homework.
  • A universal set box for items that belong to none of the sets.
  • Build from lists: paste two to five lists and the overlaps fill themselves, with counts and percentages.
  • Printable PDFs of every template, in Letter and A4.
  • Works offline once loaded and saves as you type.

What a Venn diagram shows

A Venn diagram draws each group (a set) as a closed shape. Where shapes overlap, the items belong to more than one set; the parts that don’t overlap hold items unique to one set. The English logician John Venn introduced the idea in 1880 so that every possible combination of sets has its own region, even when it’s empty. Learn more in what is a Venn diagram, or read the symbols and set notation guide.

Questions people ask

Is VennMaker really free with no sign-up?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no trial. The editor runs in your browser and your diagram is saved in your browser’s local storage, not on a server.

How many circles can a Venn diagram have here?

Two to five sets. Two and three sets use circles. Four and five sets use ellipses, because circles cannot show every combination once you go past three sets (see our 4 circle Venn diagram page for why).

How do I put text inside the overlapping parts?

Click the region on the diagram, or open the Text tab. Each region has its own box, labelled with its set notation (for example A ∩ B only). One item per line; the text shrinks to fit the space.

Can I use the diagram in PowerPoint, Google Slides, Word or Docs?

Yes. Download a 2000 × 1560 PNG (white or transparent background), an SVG that stays sharp at any size, or press Copy image and paste it straight into your slide or document.

How do I share a Venn diagram with my class?

Press Copy share link. The whole diagram is packed into the link itself, so anyone who opens it sees your diagram and can edit their own copy. Nothing is stored on our side.

Can I make a Venn diagram from two or more lists?

Yes. Open the “From lists” tab, paste one list per set (one item per line or comma-separated) and press Build. Shared items go into the overlaps automatically. You can show the items, just the counts, or counts with percentages, and download the result as a CSV.

Is there a printable blank Venn diagram?

Yes. Every template has a free PDF in US Letter and A4 on the templates page, with a colour page and a plain outline page.

What does the AI fill do?

After you name your sets (for example “Frogs” and “Toads”), AI suggests short, accurate items for each region and writes them in. It is a starting point for brainstorming: check the facts and edit before you hand anything in.
